Federal Stimulus Funding for Education
With billions of federal relief funding available to K-12 public and private schools as well as higher education institutions, here is a breakdown of the dollar allocations, timelines on when you can spend, and the solutions you can implement using federal funding to support learning across all learning environments.
Getting started: What federal funding is out there?
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act established the Education Stabilization Fund (ESF), allocating $30.75 billion to the U.S. Department of Education. The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act added on additional $81.88 billion to the ESF, and the America Rescue Plan (ARP) Act later contributed over $170 billion to ESF.
Through these Acts, federal funding is available for public K-12 schools under ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief), for post-secondary schools under HEER (Higher Education Emergency Relief), and for private and charter schools under the GEER (Governor’s Emergency Education Relief) fund’s Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS) program.
